Geoff Garbutt

Geoff Garbutt has extensive work experience in various roles related to strategic planning and community development. Geoff currently serves as the Chief Administrative Officer at the City of Courtenay since April 2021. Prior to that, they worked at the Regional District of Nanaimo as the General Manager of Strategic and Community Development from 2013 to 2021. Geoff also held positions at the Comox Valley Regional District as the Executive Manager of Strategic and Long Range Planning from 2009 to 2013, and at the Regional District of Nanaimo as the Manager of Current Planning from 2007 to 2009. Geoff started their career as a Community Planner at the City of Courtenay from 2003 to 2006 and then worked as a Senior Planner at the Regional District of Nanaimo from 2001 to 2003. Prior to that, they worked as a Community Planning Consultant at Urban Systems Ltd. from 1998 to 2001.

Geoff Garbutt has a diverse education history. Geoff obtained their Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from Queen's University in 2000. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Calgary in 1995. Additionally, Geoff completed a Professional Certificate Program in Local Government Management from Capilano College. Geoff is also a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, although the specific date of their certification is unknown.
