Jennifer Linder started their career at the City of Florence, South Carolina in 1999 as a Special Projects Coordinator. In this role, they worked on various projects until December 2004. Jennifer Linder then returned to the City of Florence in 2011 as a Risk Management Specialist, where they remained until August 2012. From August 2012 to May 2021, Jennifer served as the Human Resources Manager for the City of Florence. In May 2021, they were promoted to the position of Human Resources Director.

The City of Florence, chartered in 1890, is located in Florence County, South Carolina at the intersection of I-95 and I-20. The city is the county seat of Florence County and a hub of an eight county area known as the "Pee Dee Region" of South Carolina. The city occupies a land area of approximately 20 square miles and serves a population of approximately 37,000. The CIty operates under the council-manager form of government. Policy-making and legislative authority are vested in a governing council consisting of the mayor and six other members. The Mayor and three members of Council are elected at large. The remaining three members of Council are elected by district. The City provides a full range of services, including: police and fire protection; the construction and maintenance of streets and other infrastructure; sanitation services; parks, recreational, and athletic activities and events; planning and zoning services; water production and distribution services; wastewater collection and treatment services; and storm water collection services.
