Jay Steffen is the current Assistant Planning Director - Long Range/Com Engagement at the City of Grand Rapids. Prior to this, they worked for the City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department for 18 years, where they eventually became the Parks and Recreation Director. Before that, they worked for the Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Department for 8 years, where they progressed from Parks Designer to Senior Planner. Jay Steffen has a long history of working in parks and recreation, and has been instrumental in the development of many parks and recreation facilities across the country.
Jay Steffen earned their Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture from Kansas State University.
Jay Steffen reports to Kristin Turkelson, Design, Development & Community Engagement Planning Director. They work with Mark Fleet - Building Official, Tyler Kent - Assistant Planning Director - Dev Review/Zoning, and Jonathan Oeverman - Administrative Services Officer II - Development Center. Some individuals on their team include Juan Torres - Administrative Aide, Layla Aslani - Planning Supervisor.
