John Hinzman, AICP has extensive work experience in city planning and development. John began their career as a City Planner for the City of Andover in 1996, where they were responsible for authoring staff reports, coordinating land use approvals, and preparing the 2020 Comprehensive Plan. In 2001, they joined the City of Brooklyn Park as a Senior Planner, where they continued to handle land use approvals and zoning permits. From 2002 to 2010, John served as the Planning Director and later as the Community Development Director for the City of Hastings. In these roles, they managed various departments including planning, economic development, building, code enforcement, and historic preservation. John also directed environmental remediation and redevelopment activities and oversaw the sale of city-owned properties. Overall, John Hinzman has a wealth of experience in city planning, development, and economic growth.

John Hinzman, AICP, completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Geography at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls from 1990 to 1994. John then pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Urban Planning at Minnesota State University, Mankato from 1995 to 2001. In 2001, John also obtained the AICP certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners.
