Luverne was founded by Philo Hawes in 1867. Today, the city of Luverne has a population of approximately 4,946 people. It is the county seat of Rock County in Minnesota. The City of Luverne provides water, sewer, electric, garbage & recycling utilities for residents and businesses. The City partners with Missouri River Energy Services to offer the electrical service. The City of Luverne also owns and operates a municipal liquor store - Blue Mound Liquor, a pool & fitness center - Luverne Aquatics & Fitness, and a municipal airport - Quentin Aanenson Field.
