Michelle Shumpert CPA, CGS has over 25 years of experience in the finance and accounting field. Michelle started their career in CPA firms, where they worked as a Staff Accountant, handling a range of tasks such as tax returns, bookkeeping services, payroll processing, financial statement preparation, and audit testing. Michelle also had experience in fixed asset accounting and depreciation calculation.

In 1998, Michelle joined Horry County Government as a Staff Accountant and Internal Auditor. Michelle later became Deputy Director of Finance, responsible for supervising staff, managing general accounting functions, and preparing financial reports, including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and Schedule of Federal Financial Assistance.

Since 2004, Michelle has been working at the City of Myrtle Beach. Michelle initially served as a Senior Financial Analyst before progressing to the role of Budget and Evaluation Director. In this position, they managed budget and compliance staff, the budget process, and capital planning. Michelle also conducted complex analysis of proposals and identified long-term staffing and operational needs.

In 2016, Michelle took on the role of Director of Financial Management & Reporting, where they oversaw the general accounting and reporting function, budget planning, grant management, and compliance. Michelle continuously monitored various factors for possible threats or opportunities and performed complex analysis as needed.
