Ayalneh Merid

Ayalneh (Albert) Merid is an experienced professional currently serving as the Assistant Director of the Planning and Building Department for the City of Oakland since September 2019. Ayalneh oversees budget development, fiscal management, and various operational units within the department, including cashiering, records, requisitions, payments, contract management, and HR personnel. Prior to this role, Ayalneh worked at Toyota North America for two decades where responsibilities included managing over $1 billion in inventory, leading Kaizen projects for process improvement, and developing vendor relationships as a Procurement Analyst. Ayalneh holds a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Supply Chain Management from San Jose State University and a Certificate in Data Science for Business from Harvard Business School Online.
