Laura Vazquez has an extensive work experience that spans across different industries and organizations. Laura started their career as an EOP Link Student Employee at San Jose State University in 2013, where they assisted and interacted with EOP students on a daily basis. Laura later became an EOP Resident Assistant, providing support and guidance to first-generation students through an intense 5-week program.
In 2015, Laura worked as an EOP Student Assistant, where they communicated with EOP advisors and assisted around 60 students with their questions and concerns. Laura was also responsible for updating information for approximately 2,000 EOP students.
In 2016, Laura served as a Community Assistant in the Spartan Scholars Program at San Jose State University. Laura mentored students, supervised a team, and ensured a safe environment for incoming freshmen. Later that year, they became an EOP Academic Advisor, providing academic guidance and assistance to 100 first-generation students. Laura also co-trained and supervised Student Ambassadors and Outreach Program, delivering outreach presentations to various organizations.
From 2018 to 2020, Laura worked as a Community Health Promoter in the Peace Corps. Laura conducted community diagnostics, coordinated with health centers and community agents, and provided health information to families. Laura also trained community agents and collaborated with various institutions for increased collaboration on health programs.
In 2022, Laura became a Success Coach at Long Beach City College, supporting first-year students in achieving their educational and personal goals through one-on-one support and workshops.
Most recently, Laura has been working in the City of Oakland as a Head Start Health Analyst. Laura forms partnerships with community organizations, maintains contact with healthcare providers, and supports Advocates and Home Visitors in assisting families in the Head Start Program. Laura also reviews policies and procedures relating to health and develops trainings for staff.
Throughout their career, Laura has demonstrated a commitment to supporting and empowering individuals, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, in achieving their goals and accessing necessary resources.
Laura Vazquez earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from San Jose State University in the years 2012 to 2016. Following this, they pursued graduate courses in Counseling-Student Development in Higher Education at California State University, Long Beach from 2021 to 2022. Currently, Laura is in the process of completing a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focus on Latino health at California State University, Long Beach, starting in 2023 and expected to end in 2025. Additionally, they hold an Additional Certification in Enhanced Fitness Training.
