Jay Burney, ICMA-CM, has over two decades of experience in municipal management, currently serving as the City Manager for the City of Olympia since June 1999. Prior roles within the City of Olympia include Assistant City Manager, Assistant Director of Public Works, and Project Manager for Public Works. Prior to joining Olympia, Jay worked as an Industrial Engineer at Boeing from May 1997 to June 1999 and served as Branch Manager at All-Phase Electric-CED from June 1993 to May 1997. Educational qualifications include a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Norwich University (2009-2011) and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution from Central Washington University (1990-1993).

Olympia is a Council-Manager city, with a seven member City Council including an elected Mayor. The City Manager has executive authority to oversee and manage municipal services and operations.
