Alex M. Smith is an accomplished urban designer and landscape architect with extensive experience in various roles within the City of Philadelphia's Department of Planning and Development since January 2014. Currently serving as the Director of the Philadelphia Art Commission and Art and Design Division, as well as a Senior Urban Designer, responsibilities include supervising site and building controls, managing urban design reviews, and promoting public policy initiatives such as Philadelphia2035 and the Vision Zero Action Plan. Prior to this, Alex held positions as a City Planner III and II, coordinating urban design studies and managing community outreach efforts. Additional experience includes roles as a landscape designer at Floura Teeter Landscape Architects, Inc. and LandConcepts Group, where responsibilities encompassed various aspects of design and project management. Alex holds a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture with Honors Distinction from Penn State University, complemented by additional studies in Rome, Italy, and Udzungwa, Tanzania.
