Marilyn Howarth

Medical Director, Employee Disability at City of Philadelphia

Marilyn Howarth, MD, FACOEM has extensive work experience in occupational and environmental health. Marilyn currently serves as the Deputy Director at the Philadelphia Regional Center for Children's Environmental Health. Prior to this, they held the position of Director, Community Engagement Core at the Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology at the University of Penn Perelman School of Medicine. Marilyn also worked as the Medical Director, Employee Disability at the City of Philadelphia.

Dr. Howarth is the owner of Howarth Occupational and Environmental Consulting, PC, where they provide medical direction, consultation, expert witness services, teaching, and care for patients with illness related to environmental and occupational exposures. Marilyn is a Fellow of ACOEM (American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine).

In their earlier career, Dr. Howarth served as a Consulting Medical Director at Exelon and as the Medical Director of Penn Executive Health and WorkWell at the University of Pennsylvania. Marilyn also held the position of Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Howarth began their career as the Section Head of Occupational and Environmental Health at Cooper University Hospital. Marilyn expanded employee health services to outside companies and actively participated in advisory boards related to environmental and occupational health.

Marilyn Howarth, MD, FACOEM completed their education with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in biology from Swarthmore College in 1982. Marilyn then pursued their MD degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, graduating in 1986. Following that, they completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Pennsylvania Hospital from 1986 to 1989. In 1989, Marilyn attended the Centers for Disease Control as an EIS Officer to further their studies in Epidemiology, concluding their education in 1991.
