Dr. Stryker Calvez

Director, Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, And Inclusion (redi) at City of Saskatoon

Dr. Stryker Calvez has a diverse and extensive work experience. Their most recent position is as the Director of Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) at the City of Saskatoon starting in November 2022. Prior to this, they held the role of Sr. Manager EDI Strategy and Enablement at Nutrien from March 2022 to September 2022.

From 2015 to 2022, Dr. Calvez worked at the University of Saskatchewan in various roles. They served as the Manager of Indigenous Education Initiatives from June 2017 to March 2022, and as an Educational Development Specialist (Aboriginal Engagement and Education) from November 2015 to May 2017.

In 2014, Dr. Calvez joined Indspire as a Researcher at the Indspire Institute. Their work involved leading a research team to document best practices in indigenous education across Canada.

Before that, from 2014 to 2015, Dr. Calvez was the Executive Director and Research Associate at SHARE - Saskatoon HIV/AIDS Research Endeavour. They worked with community leaders and researchers to address health issues related to HIV/AIDS in under-served communities.

Dr. Calvez's earlier experience includes a role as a Research Associate at the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network - Prevention and Vulnerable Populations Core Research Team in 2015. They also worked at Six Nations Health Services as a Researcher from 2009 to 2013, focusing on evaluating healthcare programs and community participation.

Additionally, Dr. Calvez had research contract roles at the University of Guelph from 2005 to 2014, including a Social Marketing Intervention Project Administrator and PhD research positions. They were responsible for developing and implementing a social marketing campaign to prevent falls in children and conducted innovative research on acculturation and cross-cultural training.

Furthermore, in 2009, Dr. Calvez worked with the Ontario Public Service as a Research contractor, where they helped develop the Inclusion Index and produced reports on employee perceptions of inclusiveness.

Dr. Stryker Calvez began their education journey in 2000 at The University of British Columbia, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Honours degree in Social Psychology. Dr. Stryker completed their undergraduate studies in 2004. Subsequently, in 2005, Dr. Calvez enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan, where they obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Social Psychology after three years of study. Their educational pursuits continued, leading him to the University of Guelph, where Dr. Calvez earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Social Psychology in the period of 2008 to 2014. In 2022, they attended Emory University - Goizueta Business School for executive training in EDI Change Management under a program called "Executive Training - EDI Change Management."
