Jennifer Gutierres, PHR, PHRca has over 14 years of work experience in human resources. Jennifer is currently the Head of Human Resources (Deputy Human Resources Director) at the City of Simi Valley since 2016. Prior to that, they worked as a Human Resources Manager at the County of Santa Barbara from 2011 to 2016, where they supported various departments and performed generalist duties. Jennifer also has experience as a Human Resources Client Relations Executive at ADP TotalSource from 2007 to 2011, where they managed a team of 11 generalists and provided HR support to over 350 clients. Before that, they worked as an Area Human Resources Manager at Sears, where they provided HR support to multiple stores. In addition, they have been an Exam Development Volunteer at the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) since 2009. Overall, Jennifer has a broad range of experience in employee relations, labor relations, investigations, leave administration, training, recruitment and selection, and other HR functions.
Jennifer Gutierres, PHR, PHRca, holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Business Management from Antioch University Santa Barbara. Jennifer also has a Certificate in Human Resource Management from UC Santa Barbara.
In terms of additional certifications, Jennifer obtained the Professional in Human Resources (PHR®) designation from the HR Certification Institute - HRCI in December 2005 and the Professional in Human Resources - California Designation (PHRca®) in December 2007. Jennifer has also acquired the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Volunteer certification from FEMA in 2011.
More recently, Jennifer acquired additional certifications such as the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing in December 2022 and the Veterans At Work Certificate from SHRM in May 2023.
