For the first time in a long time, the Dallas Cowboys have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs.
It’s been a long time since the Cowboys were in the playoffs. The last time was in 2009, when they lost to the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round.
But this year, the Cowboys have a chance to make it back to the postseason. They’re currently 7-6 and in the NFC East lead. They’ve won four of their last five games and have a favorable schedule down the stretch.
If the Cowboys can win their final three games, they’ll make the playoffs. Here’s a look at what the Cowboys need to do to make the playoffs.
1. Win Out
The Cowboys have three games left on their schedule: the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins. All three games are winnable, and the Cowboys need to win all three to make the playoffs.
The Rams are the toughest opponent of the three, but they’ve been struggling lately and the Cowboys have the home-field advantage. The Eagles and Redskins are both struggling, so the Cowboys should be able to win those games.
2. Get Help From Other Teams
The Cowboys need some help from other teams to make the playoffs. The most important team is the Chicago Bears. The Bears are 8-5 and currently hold the final wild-card spot in the NFC.
The Cowboys need the Bears to lose at least one of their final three games. If the Bears win out, the Cowboys won’t make the playoffs.
The Cowboys also need the Eagles to lose at least one of their final three games. If the Eagles win out, the Cowboys won’t make the playoffs.
3. Win the NFC East
The Cowboys need to win the NFC East to make the playoffs. If they win out, they’ll win the division. If they don’t win out, they’ll need some help from other teams.
The Eagles are currently 7-7 and the Redskins are 6-8. If the Cowboys win out and the Eagles and Redskins both lose one of their final three games, the Cowboys will win the division.
Making the playoffs is within reach for the Cowboys. If they can win their final three games, they’ll make the playoffs.
