Ben Chigier is an entrepreneur, consultant and investor. Ben holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mathematics (1985), and an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1988) from Carnegie Mellon University. Ben was the founder, CEO and Chairman of two companies. He founded PureSpeech in 1992 which was acquired seven years later in 1998. PureSpeech built automatic speech recognition software and toolkits that were embedded in other applications. PureSpeech sold it’s products and services horizontally across a broad range of markets from consumer PC’s to directory assistant applications.
Ben founded his second company, eScription in 1999 and it was acquired 9 years later in 2008. eScription was focused on medical dictation, transcription and workflow in the healthcare vertical market. Through the use of automatic speech recognition technology to produce a draft transcription, transcriptionists are able to produce documents in less than half the time it would take them if typing the documents from scratch. As a result eScription customers were able to document cumulative savings of $50MM by 2008. eScription was the pioneer in computer-aided medical transcription.
