Johnathan Berard

State Director, Rhode Island at Clean Water Action

Johnathan is a policy analyst, community organizer, and activist with a focus on water resource management and conservation. He also specializes in environmental justice issues, sustainable development, collaborative governance and civic engagement, and political campaigns. He has extensive experience in the public policy and nonprofit arena. Prior to coming to Clean Water Action, Johnathan most recently served as the public policy director at Blue Water Baltimore, an environmental non-profit in Maryland. Previously, he worked with the District of Columbia Department of the Environment to identify and propose solutions for inequities in access to healthy foods across the city and spent time as a program coordinator at the Brookings Institution and Brown University. He began his advocacy career as a grassroots organizer for Clean Water Action.

He received his Master of Public Policy from The George Washington University with a concentration in urban and environmental policy, and Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the University of Rhode Island, with a minor in Coastal and Marine Policy.
