Derek Shehata

Derek Shehata has extensive work experience in engineering and software development roles. Derek currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Engineering at ClearCompany Talent Management Software since July 2022. Derek'sresponsibilities include setting the engineering vision and strategies aligned with business objectives, nurturing and growing development teams, and ensuring overall business growth.

Prior to their current role, Derek worked at ClearCompany in various positions. From October 2018 to July 2022, they held the role of Vice President of Engineering, where they were responsible for planning and executing development efforts, expanding ClearCompany's functionality, and scaling the platform. Derek also worked closely with executive stakeholders.

From June 2015 to October 2018, Derek served as the Director of Product Engineering at ClearCompany, leading the engineering team in implementing the product roadmap. Before that, they were a senior engineer on the product roadmap team.

Before joining ClearCompany, Derek worked at Wayfair as the Associate Director of Engineering/Software Architect from 2013 to 2015. In this role, they directed multiple engineering teams responsible for the development of a content management system and a product search and recommendations platform. Additionally, they acted as a project manager and architect for the content management system.

From 2011 to 2013, Derek worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance, first as an Application Portfolio & Software Development Manager in the Architecture & Security department of Commercial Insurance IT. Derek'sresponsibilities included providing IT vision, developing technology roadmaps, and managing employees. Previously, they held a role in the Information Management department, managing a team responsible for constructing and maintaining data marts and data warehouses.

In their earlier career, Derek worked at Explorica, starting as a Software Engineer from 2004 to 2006. Derek designed and developed web applications, including a sales department management application. Derek then became a Senior Software Engineer from 2006 to 2010, taking on leadership responsibilities and mentoring junior engineers. Finally, they served as a Software Engineering Manager from 2010 to 2011, managing a team of software engineers, acting as the lead architect, and defining coding standards and development best practices.

Derek Shehata pursued their education through a series of academic achievements. Derek began their higher education at Clarkson University from 1999 to 2001, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Following this, Shehata enrolled at the University of Maine from 2001 to 2003, where they furthered their studies in Computer Science and obtained another Bachelor of Science degree. Finally, Shehata attended Babson College from 2012 to 2014, where they successfully completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies.
