Pawel Kicman has a diverse work experience in the field of robotics and aerospace. Pawel is currently the Head of Robotics at ClearSpace, a position they have held since December 2022. Prior to this, they worked at ClearSpace as a Senior Robotics Systems Engineer from October 2021 to January 2023.
Before joining ClearSpace, Pawel was the AOCS Group Lead at the Space Research Centre - Polish Academy of Sciences from November 2020 to October 2021.
Pawel also has a significant experience working at GMV. Pawel started as a Guidance, Navigation & Control Engineer in November 2014 and held this position until December 2014. Pawel then returned to GMV as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Experienced Researcher fellow from January 2015 to December 2015, focusing on image processing for navigation in asteroid and interplanetary missions. From January 2016 to November 2020, they worked as a Guidance, Navigation & Control Engineer, managing a local team and being responsible for navigation development, integration, and maintenance of GNC software. Pawel also managed a distributed team and designed navigation chains for both cooperative and non-cooperative scenarios in the RACE project.
Pawel has also had experience working as a Software Developer at Stowarzyszenie Tęcza, where they worked on contract basis from January 2015 to October 2020. Pawel was responsible for improving the efficiency of end-of-month reporting by automating the process.
Additionally, Pawel was a Co-Founder and Management Board Member at New Space Foundation from April 2013 to March 2015. Pawel also worked as a Researcher and PhD Student at Warsaw University of Technology from October 2010 to October 2014, focusing on sensor fusion and vision-based navigation algorithms. During this time, they also taught various subjects related to navigation, programming, and aerospace systems.
Early in their career, Pawel was actively involved in the Students' Space Association, where they served as Chairman and Management Board Member for two consecutive years (2006-2007). Pawel played a key role in managing day-to-day activities, motivating members to work on projects, and securing funds for the organization. Pawel also participated in hands-on student projects such as SCOPE, where they were responsible for electronic design and project PR.
Pawel's work experience in the aerospace industry dates back to their time as an Engineering Intern at the Institute of Aviation in August 2008.
Pawel Kicman earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Automatics and On-Board Systems from Warsaw University of Technology, which they attended from 2005 to 2009. Following that, from 2009 to 2010, they obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Autonomous Vehicle Dynamics & Control from Cranfield University. Pawel then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Navigation, Robotics at Warsaw University of Technology from 2010 to 2015. In addition, they obtained the AgilePM® Foundation certificate from APMG International in October 2018.
