Gordon MacDonald began their work experience in 2008 as a 2nd Engineer at Upper Lakes Shipping, where they managed engine room operations on the Gordon C. Leache bulk carrier. Gordon then transitioned to Clearwater Seafoods LP as Chief Engineer in the same year, with responsibilities for operating and maintaining the Atlantic Preserver factory freezer trawler, specializing in deep sea scallops.
Gordon MacDonald attended the Nautical Institute of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia from 1997 to 1998. During this time, they pursued a degree in Marine Engineering and completed the program as a Marine Engineer Cadet.
