Anthony Abernathy has a diverse work experience in the fields of team communications, brand strategy, marketing, and brand development. Anthony is currently working as the VP of Team Communications and Brand Strategy for the Cleveland Cavaliers since October 2021. Prior to that, they worked as an External Advisor for the University of Michigan - School of Information starting from August 2020. Abernathy has also held various roles at Nike, including Sr. Brand Director - Global Men's Perf (Basketball) and Sr. Brand Marketing Director - Nikebasketball, where they focused on strategic development, marketing, and growth of the basketball business. Anthony also worked as the Sr Director - Brand & Digital for Super Heroic, where they were responsible for brand development and go-to-market strategies. Before their time at Nike, Abernathy worked as a North America Marketing Director - Jordan Brand at Nike, where they were involved in holistic marketing strategies and brand development beyond basketball and sportswear. Anthony also has experience in digital marketing and information architecture, having worked as a Global Digital Marketing - Brand Innovations Leader and a US Digital Marketing Producer at Nike, as well as an Information Architect at QVC.

Anthony Abernathy completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where they attended from 1998 to 2002. Anthony then pursued a Master of Science degree in Human Computer Interaction at the University of Michigan - School of Information from 2003 to 2004.
