Jan Claesen currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Sciences at the Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic, having held this position since November 2017. Additionally, Jan Claesen has been an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine since April 2018 and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Cleveland State University since November 2020. In July 2024, Jan Claesen took on the role of Senior Editor for Spectrum at the American Society for Microbiology. Previous experience includes serving as a Principal Investigator at the Quadram Institute and as a Consultant and Scientific Advisory Board Member at Seed Health. Jan Claesen's academic journey began with a PhD at the John Innes Centre and a postdoctoral research role at UCSF. Jan Claesen holds an MSc in Biological Engineering with a focus on Cell and Gene Biotechnology from KU Leuven.
