Johnny Brännbacka has a diverse work experience in the steel manufacturing industry. Johnny started their career in 2004 as a Post-Doc Researcher at Åbo Akademi University, where they developed a blast furnace hearth erosion model that was implemented and sold to two major steel companies. In 2006, they joined ArcelorMittal as a Lead Engineer in their Global Research Department, specializing in control, simulation, and modeling of steel manufacturing processes. Johnny also led the ArcelorMittal Global R&D Cold Rolling Cluster, coordinating research projects in the cold rolling and annealing area. In 2022, Johnny joined Cleveland-Cliffs as the Lead Research Engineer.
Johnny Brännbacka received their M.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from Åbo Akademi University between 1994 and 1999. Johnny then pursued a Ph.D. in Heat Engineering (Chem. Eng) at the same institution from 1999 to 2004.
