Reto Balz has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Reto started as a Physics Laboratory Assistant at Paul Scherrer Institut PSI in 2001, before becoming a Technician at ETH Zürich in 2005. Reto then worked as a Scientific Assistant at Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW from 2009 to 2012. Reto then joined STRAG Schlammtrocknungs AG as a Process Engineer from 2013 to 2015. Reto subsequently worked at WinGD – Winterthur Gas & Diesel, where they held various roles including Research Engineer/Industrial PhD Student, Research Engineer, and Research Expert from 2015 to 2021. Reto then joined Paul Scherrer Institut PSI as a Research Engineer for a brief period in 2021. Currently, Reto is working at Climeworks since 2022, holding the position of Senior R&D Engineer and later transitioning to Lead Engineer Testing.
Reto Balz obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW from 2006 to 2009. From 2012 to 2013, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol. Reto later attended Chalmers University of Technology from 2016 to 2020, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Thermo and Fluid Dynamics. In addition to their formal education, they have also obtained certifications in various areas such as machine safety, particle image velocimetry, electrical safety, handling radioactive sources, and height safety.
