CNC Production Engineer

Engineering · Full-time · Chelmsford, United Kingdom

Job description

Who are CloudNC? CloudNC's mission is to make single-click manufacture a reality.

We build software that automates control of CNC machines - metal cutting robots that make >$1Trn of components every year, for anything from aircraft to iPhones to cars.

Worldwide over 100 million hours are spent painstakingly programming these incredible machines by hand every year, and we believe this is a colossal waste of human time and talent in an industry already facing an existential skills crisis. Our software, CAM Assist, brings one-click automation to CNC machining.

Our world-class team, with tier 1 financial backers including Atomico, Autodesk and Lockheed Martin, combines expertise in computer science and physical manufacturing, from our locations in London and Chelmsford.

We are scaling from Series B to C at pace and are fully funded for this growth.

Primary Purpose of the Role: You will be responsible for interpreting part blueprints, the development of work holding fixturing and the development and set up of part-specific programming on various CNC machines fully utilising CloudNC software where possible. Achieving Engineering KPI’s and an advocate for continuous improvement (cradle-to-grave process ownership)

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Master and utilise all CloudNC CAM-related products wherever applicable
  • Develop and implement CNC programs based on engineering drawings and specifications using the latest CAM software (Fusion 360, MasterCam, Siemens NX, Hypermill, Vericut, SolidCam.
  • Determine the manufacturing process of a new product from the fixture/work holding stage through to the finished product.
  • Prove out and monitor programs to ensure production aligns with quality standards
  • Resolve post-processor issues, not limited to editing and proving the programs and planning manufacturing methods and operating procedures.
  • Generate toolpath design, model preparation and continuous improvements within CAM & CNC.
  • Advise on best practice for tooling, design concepts of fixtures or work holding components, and machining strategies.
  • Accurately support estimations and sales teams, with CAM programming methods, machine setup and machining run times, job-specific tooling costs and additional post processes.
  • Ensure that the correct tooling is available to complete a job, and order all necessary consumables throughout the production process when required.
  • Provide guidance on design changes to enhance the manufacturability of components.
  • Coach the production team on best practices and process improvements.
  • Review program execution to identify opportunities for improvements to products and processes
  • Address and resolve post-processor issues, including program editing, and plan manufacturing methods and operating procedures.
  • Generate toolpath designs, prepare models, and drive continuous improvements in CAM & CNC processes.
  • Advise on best practices for tooling, fixture design, work holding components, and machining strategies.
  • Support estimations and sales teams with accurate CAM programming methods, machine setups, machining run times, tooling costs, and additional post-process requirements.
  • Ensure the availability of correct tooling for each job, and order necessary consumables throughout the production process.

Experience:

  • Experience in creating CAM programmes, including process and procedural improvements.
  • New Product Introduction experience, industrialisation
  • Experience in creating and influencing cross-functional teams.
  • knowledge as a CNC machinist and Programmer to accurately support the creation and validation of 3 and 5 axis programmes.
  • Creation of supporting documentation to aid the production team in the successful completion of made to print product
  • QCD mindset and the ability to offer guidance on design changes that will aid the manufacturing of components.
