John Engels has a diverse range of work experience. John started their career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya, where they taught English and general subjects to high school students. John also raised funds for improvement projects. Following this, they worked as a Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Burundi, teaching undergraduate courses and designing a campaign to increase awareness of human rights.

John then transitioned into the field of development and communications, working at various organizations such as Academy for Educational Development, IBI International, Family Health International, International Relief and Development (IRD), and Save the Children US. In these roles, they held positions such as Senior Program Officer, Chief of Party, Associate Director, Sr Communications Officer, Director of Communications, and Director of Advocacy, Communications & Knowledge Management.

Most recently, John served as the Technical Director and Lead Writer at Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA). Throughout their career, they have demonstrated their expertise in communications, advocacy, and knowledge management.

John Engels attended St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt., where they obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies. John later pursued higher education at The University of Alabama, where they completed a Master of Arts degree in English.
