Grant Butler

Mr. Butler has served as Chief Legal Officer since January 2017. Prior to joining Cognition Financial, Mr. Butler was a Vice President and Senior Counsel at State Street Bank and Trust Company and prior to that was a member of the Financial Services group of Goodwin Procter. Mr. Butler has also served as the outside general counsel and secretary of a non-profit organization and taught a course at Boston University School of Law's Banking and Financial Law program. In the past, he has regularly spoken on banking and financial law topics at industry events and participated in the drafting of financial law statutes in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Mr. Butler received a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Business (Finance) from the University of Kansas and a J.D. and an LL.M. in Banking and Financial Law from Boston University School of Law.
