Before that, they worked as a Research Assistant at Case Western Reserve University from March 2013 to September 2013. In this role, they were part of a biostatistics team investigating wound healing in veterans. James refined software for statistical analysis of sequential images of healing ulcers and worked on a scientific research project as a team member.

James Matthiesen obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Statistics from Case Western Reserve University, where they studied from 2012 to 2016.
