Dave Cowden has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Dave began their career as a Co-op Student at Pratt & Whitney, where they participated in various projects related to mechanical engineering. This included working in the F100-PW-229 High turbine design group, the aerothermal design lab, and the F100-PW-229 Structures division. Following this, Dave worked as an Engineering Intern at 3M, where they contributed to the testing and development of a fiber optic connector, resulting in a patent grant.

Dave then joined Advanced Automation as a Mechanical Engineer, before transitioning to CoLinx, LLC. At CoLinx, they held multiple roles including Java Programmer/Analyst, Development Manager, Director of Software Development, and eventually, Vice President of Development. In their various positions at CoLinx, Dave was responsible for software development implementation and strategy, focusing on e-commerce and logistics systems. Dave achieved significant improvements in mean deployment frequency and website availability.

In 2013, Dave founded the cadquery project, blending their interests in programming and mechanical engineering. This open-source project gained popularity, becoming a leading method for creating CAD models for 3D printing.

Dave also obtained several certifications, including the Oracle Certified Database Administrator from Oracle in October 1999, the Microsoft Certified Professional from Microsoft in September 1999, and the Engineer In Training (FE) certification from the Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers in September 1997.
