Head of Bioinformatics at Color

Jeroen Van den Akker is the current Head of Bioinformatics at Color. Jeroen has also worked as a Product Support Manager Europe at Agendia from March 2011 to August 2014. In this position, they were responsible for molecular diagnostics for personalized treatment of breast and colon cancer, supervision of lab scientists & bioinformaticians, trouble-shooting issues in diagnostic lab, development of microarray QC model, maintenance/improvement of accuracy & stability of diagnostic tests, design and implementation of automated lab workflows, valorization of scientific discoveries into clinical products, assist in 510(k) for FDA approval of diagnostic products, fully knowledgeable on CAP/CLIA, 21CFR-part11 & ISO-13485 requirements, data management of large, international clinical trials such as “Mindact”, run by EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer), data analysis in preparation of scientific papers and presentations. Prior to this, they worked as a PhD student at Academic Medical Center from February 2006 to December 2010.

Jeroen Van den Akker has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering & Physics from the University of Amsterdam. Jeroen also has a MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology. Jeroen has a VWO in compulsory schooling from Utrechts Stedelijk Gymnasium. Jeroen is certified by the California Department of Public Health as a Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist. Jeroen is also certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as an MB - Technologist in Molecular Biology.

They are on a team with and Serra Kim - Head of Variant Science. Jeroen Van den Akker reports to Alicia Zhou, Chief Science Officer.
