Chief Investment Officer/Chief Operating Officer at Colorado PERA

Amy McGarrity was named Chief Investment Officer (CIO) in 2017 and Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2022. As CIO and COO she is responsible for managing over $76.8 billion for the pension plan in accordance with the Board of Trustees policies and state statutes and oversees PERA’s Operational and Benefit Services.

Ms. McGarrity oversees portfolio and risk management for global equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity, and new investment opportunities. She recommends investment policy to the Board of Trustees and contributes to strategic planning. She manages relationships with external asset managers, the custodial bank, and investment consultants and represents Colorado PERA to legislative bodies and other external entities.

While at Colorado PERA, Ms. McGarrity worked as Senior Investment Officer, then as the Deputy Chief Investment Officer. She has also held previous investment positions at William Blair, Buck Consultants, Prima Capital Holding, William M. Mercer Investment Consulting, and Caxton Corporation.

Ms. McGarity holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Wyoming and an MBA from Rider University. She is the co-chair of the Investor Advisory Group for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, serves on the Healthy Markets Association Board and the Girl Scouts of Colorado ad hoc Investment Committee. She has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and serves on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Steering Committee for the CFA Institute.
