Yonty Friesem

Yonty Friesem has a diverse work experience in various roles. In 2012, they started working at Media Education Lab, where they held positions such as Executive Director, Co-director, Associate Director, Assistant Director, and Manager. Yonty joined Columbia College Chicago in 2018 as an Associate Professor in Communication and Founding Director of MA in Civic Media. At the National Association for Media Literacy Education, Yonty served as the Conference Program Chair from 2018 to 2019. Yonty also worked as an Assistant Professor of Multimedia Production at Central Connecticut State University from 2016 to 2017. Other roles include Conference Producer at the International Association for Intercultural Communication Studies, Program Evaluator at First Star, Inc., Lecturer at the University of Rhode Island, Lead Instructor and Curriculum Developer at First Star, Inc., and Teaching Assistant at Temple University. Yonty also served as a Lecturer and Website Manager at The Open University of Israel from 2007 to 2011.

Yonty Friesem holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Education, Digital and Media Literacy from the University of Rhode Island, which was completed from 2012 to 2015. Prior to that, from 2007 to 2009, they earned an M.A. Magna Cum Laude degree in Management and Leadership in Education from Tel Aviv University. Yonty also obtained a B.A. Magna Cum Laude degree in Social Science and Humanities from The Open University of Israel (2004-2007). Earlier in their education, they completed a Professional Diploma with Honors in Video and Film Production from the Camera Obscura School of Art between 1998 and 2001.
