Laura Derouin is currently the VP & Associate General Counsel & Assistant Corporate Secretary at Columbian Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. Laura has over 14 years of experience in the legal field.
Derouin began their career at Trustmark in January 2008, where they eventually became the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. In this role, they served as both the Deputy General Counsel for Trustmark Mutual Holding Company and lead lawyer for Health Fitness Corporation, a Trustmark subsidiary providing wellness and fitness management services to employers and communities. Laura managed a team of legal and compliance professionals and was responsible for commercial contracting, U.S. and global privacy and security compliance, litigation, employment, and protection and management of domestic trademark portfolios and other intellectual property issues, including an enterprise rebrand. Laura also provided internal legal support and managed outside counsel throughout all aspects of acquisitions. Additionally, they served as Corporate Secretary for all subsidiaries, and Assistant Corporate Secretary of the Mutual Holding Company. Finally, they assisted the General Counsel with management of Law and Compliance Department annual budget and management of all staff.
In April 2022, Laura Derouin transitioned to their current role as VP & Associate General Counsel & Assistant Corporate Secretary at Columbian Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc.
Laura Derouin attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they earned a B.S. in Business Administration. Laura then went on to earn a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center. Finally, they earned a financial certificate from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
