Matthew J. Benson

Matthew J. Benson, Ed.D., serves as the Chief of Police for the Cumberland RI Police Department, leading a sworn staff of 43 officers in a jurisdiction that serves 33,500 residents. In addition to this role, Benson holds several positions within law enforcement accreditation bodies, including Commissioner and Assessor for CALEA and Treasurer on the Executive Board of the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission. Benson's extensive law enforcement experience includes significant leadership roles within the Town of Johnston Police Department, overseeing administrative functions, accreditation management, and training development.
