Khai Nguyen, MD, MHS has a diverse work background in various health-related roles. Following this, Khai pursued further education at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from 1999 to 2001, attaining a Masters in Health Sciences with a focus on Health Policy.

After completing their master's degree, Khai went on to study medicine at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont. Khai received their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from this institution in 2006. Khai then dedicated the next three years of their education to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Scripps Green Hospital, from 2006 to 2009.

In 2009, Khai further enhanced their medical expertise through the Geriatric Fellowship Program at UC San Diego, where they focused on the care of elderly patients. The specific degree obtained during this time is not mentioned.
