Mariam H. Kelly

Mariam H. Kelly has extensive experience in the field of immigration law. Mariam H. started their career in 2004 as a Policy and Security Analysis Intern at the University Institute of International Security Research in Madrid, Spain. There, they assisted a professor in terrorism studies and conducted internet research in multiple languages.

In 2005, Mariam worked as a Strategic Media Analyst at The Rendon Group, where they provided situational awareness to public and private sectors by analyzing world news stories covered by major international media outlets.

Mariam H. then transitioned into the legal field, starting as a Legal Intern at the Law Office of John Mangelli in 2007. Here, they worked closely with an attorney on various cases, conducting extensive legal research and drafting motions and memoranda.

In 2008, Mariam served as a Legal Intern at Schwartz & Perry LLP, focusing on employment discrimination litigation. Mariam H. met with clients, participated in initial interviews, and drafted legal documents such as complaints, motions, and memoranda.

From 2009 to 2010, Mariam worked as a Legal Intern at the Hofstra University School of Law Asylum Clinic. Under the guidance of a professor, they provided pro bono assistance to asylum seekers, drafting various forms and conducting trial preparation.

In 2010, they became an Immigration Attorney at the Law Offices of Micaela M. Alvarez. Mariam H. handled a variety of immigration matters, including petitions for family relatives, naturalization, cancellation of removal, asylum, and adjustment of status applications and interviews. Mariam H. also conducted client intake interviews and analyzed and researched immigration issues.

In 2011, Mariam joined the American Friends Service Committee as a Staff Attorney/Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) Fellow. Mariam H. provided legal representation to unaccompanied minors in immigration proceedings, counseling clients on eligibility for immigration relief, and preparing applications for various visas and statuses.

Mariam's career then led their to the Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto, where they held multiple positions. From 2013 to 2017, they served as a Senior Attorney in the Immigration Program, providing legal representation to immigrant youth before various immigration agencies. In 2017, they were promoted to Managing Attorney, overseeing the program's operations. Mariam H. also served as the Pro Bono Director, mentoring attorneys at law firms and corporations who were handling immigration cases through the pro bono program. Additionally, they managed pro bono clinics, engaged in fundraising, and secured law firm and corporate sponsorships.

Throughout their career, Mariam has gained extensive experience in immigration law, representing clients before various immigration agencies, conducting research and analysis, and providing mentorship and support to other attorneys.

Mariam H. Kelly completed their education in chronological order. From 2001 to 2005, they attended The George Washington University, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Middle East Studies. Following this, from 2006 to 2009, Mariam pursued their legal education at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, obtaining a Juris Doctor degree with a focus on International Law.
