Hanah Howlett McFarlane has a diverse range of work experience. Hanah started their career as a Student Liaison at the Kawartha World Issues Centre in 2007 and went on to work as a Youth Services Officer and Student Ambassador at Service Canada. In 2010, they became a Research Assistant at Trent University. Hanah then took on roles such as Interim Coordinator at By the Bushel Community Food Co-operative and Youth Engagement Coordinator at Jamaican Self-Help. From 2012 to 2015, they served as the Coordinator/Instructor and Grant Writer at the Trent Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge & Science Youth Program. Hanah then joined the Community Counselling & Resource Centre as the Manager of Philanthropy & Fund Development from 2012 to 2018. Alongside this role, they also worked as an Academic Teaching Assistant in the Teacher Education Stream at Trent University. In 2017, they joined the National Centre for Collaboration in Indigenous Education as a Research and Administrative Assistant. Hanah'smost recent position is the Director of Communications at Compass Early Learning & Care starting from September 2018.

Hanah Howlett McFarlane has an extensive education history in the field of education and anthropology. In 2005, they attended the University of Toronto for a year, focusing on Music Teacher Education. Hanah then transferred to Trent University, where they completed their Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in Socio-Cultural Anthropology from 2007 to 2010. Continuing their education, Hanah pursued a Masters in Educational Studies at Trent University from 2016 to 2019, emphasizing on education. In addition to their academic achievements, they obtained a Certification as a Laughter Yoga Leader from Laughter Yoga University in March 2015.
