Derek Young

Derek Young is the Director at Compass Housing Alliance. Derek has held various positions throughout their career, including Big Data Program Manager, Co-Founder, Principal Program Manager / VP Europe, and Founder. Derek has also been Publisher and IT Project Manager. Derek has always been driven to help others and better their community. Derek started Exit133, a local website and magazine, in 2005 to give a voice to the people of Tacoma. In 2007, they founded Seasonal View LLC, a company that provides temporary housing for those in need. As Big Data Program Manager at the University of Washington, they used machine learning to change student outcomes. In their current position at Compass Housing Alliance, they are able to help even more people by providing housing and support services to those who are experiencing homelessness. Derek is a Tacoma native and is committed to making a difference in their community.

Derek Young completed their undergraduate degree at the University of Puget Sound, where they studied both biology and politics & government. Derek then went on to earn their MBA from the University of Washington.
