Michaela Towfighi

Michaela Towfighi is a dedicated reporter with significant experience in journalism and public policy. Currently serving as a reporter for the Concord Monitor, Michaela focuses on working and middle-class residents as part of the Report for America initiative. Previous roles include serving as a student editor and reporter at The 9th Street Journal, covering critical issues such as congressional races, education, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Michaela has also worked as a research assistant at Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy, exploring trends in political lying and international fact-checking. In addition to teaching and training roles at Duke, Michaela has contributed to journalism through internships, including a news internship at the Concord Monitor and a fellowship in Cape Town, South Africa. Michaela holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Policy Analysis with a certificate in Policy Journalism and Media Studies from Duke University.
