Gideon Lichfield

Global Editorial Director, Wired at Condé Nast

Gideon Lichfield is the global editorial director of Wired at Condé Nast. Gideon was previously the editor-in-chief of the MIT Technology Review, where they gave the 120-year-old publication a new mission statement, "to make technology a greater force for good," and oversaw an editorial transformation, bringing a much stronger emphasis on the social, political, economic, and cultural impacts of technology. Gideon also moved the publication to themed print issues, launched its first podcasts, added new newsletters and events, grew the audience development team, began doing grant-funded journalism and collaborations with investigative outlets, and dramatically increased the output of long-form online features. In addition, they improved practices on recruiting, hiring, and internal equity and inclusion, creating a more diverse team.

Before joining the MIT Technology Review, Lichfield was a fellow at the Data & Society Research Institute and a senior editor at Quartz. Gideon has also been an adjunct professor at NYU and a media editor at The Economist.

Gideon Lichfield has a MSc in Philosophy of social science from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a BSc in Physics and Philosophy from University of Bristol.
