Scott DeRue

Scott DeRue is the president of Equinox. Prior to his appointment as president in June 2021, he served as a board member of Equinox and was a member of its audit committee.

DeRue is a member of the board of trustees of The Conference Board. DeRue is also a co-founder and managing partner at Rabun Group, a private equity firm, and Chibor Angels, a venture capital firm.

Prior to joining Equinox, DeRue was the Dean of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Through his teaching, research, and consulting in the areas of leadership, team performance, and organizational transformation, he was recognized as one of the 50 most influential business professors in the world. His work has been featured and widely published in major media and top academic journals throughout the world.

He is also an accomplished adventurer and mountaineer, reaching the summit of mountains including Everest, Denali, Vinson, Aconcagua, and Elbrus. He has also explored the South Pole and led executives and students to the highest point in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Through his work in education and his passion for the outdoors, DeRue has become an advocate for equitable access to education, the environment, and sustainable development.

Early in his career, DeRue worked in private equity and management consulting. He received his PhD in management from Michigan State University, where he was awarded a University Distinguished Fellowship. He also earned his bachelor of science in Business Administration with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
