Scott Long

Principal Scientist

Scott Long has over twenty years of professional experience in the scientific field. Scott began their career in 1990 as a Laboratory Technician at Continental Baking Company, where they performed analysis of baking products and ingredients via titrations and Instron analysis. In 1991 they worked as a Laboratory Technician at Ralston Purina, where they performed analysis of sodium and potassium levels in food and other products by Atomic Absorption (AA) Spectroscopy. In 1992 they worked as a Research Scientist at Monsanto, where they prepared heterocyclic compounds with potential herbicidal properties and executed a large scale preparation of a synthetically useful intermediate. In 1995 they began working as a Scientist at SmithKline Beecham, where they planned and carried out multi-step synthesis of potential pharmaceuticals including array chemistry and solid phase chemistry. Scott also synthesized Isatin derivatives as potent and selective inhibitors of Caspases 3 and 7, and prepared cephalosporin esters and amides for inhibition of ICE. In 1998 they began working as a Senior Scientist at Pfizer. In 2010 they began working as a Senior Research Chemist at Novus, where they led project chemistry to synthesize and develop novel surfactants from a key amino acid (HMTBA) used in animal nutrition, resulting in the preparation of 3 prototypes for commercial evaluation. Theirroles at Novus included synthesis, scale-up, technology transfer, process development, CRO-collaboration, contract and SOW support, formulations, design of experiment (DOE), biotage, purification, HPLC, LC-MS. In the same year they also began working as a Science Software Application Support Specialist at Monsanto. In 2018 they began working as a Senior Scientist at EAG Laboratories. In 2021 they began working as a Principal Scientist at Confluence Discovery Technologies.

Scott Long obtained a BS in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis in 2017. Scott then went on to pursue an MS in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Additionally, they obtained a Chancellor's Certificate in SharePoint from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis in November 2017.
