Chad Verbowski

Chad Verbowski is currently the CTO at Confluent. Prior to this, they were the Head of BigQuery Engineering at Google from June 2017 to October 2021. In this role, they were responsible for Next Generation Cloud Data Analytics platforms, tools, and ML services. Before joining Google, Chad Verbowski spent six years at Microsoft as the Azure SQL Data Warehouse V1 from June 2011 to June 2017. In this role, they were responsible for conceiving a vision and strategy for improving Microsoft cloud service latency that also reduced COGS by 50% and provided a 10x reduction in development cost / time to market by providing advanced A/B experimentation and reporting capabilities. Chad also incubated an Edge service by repurposing and redesigning the Frontdoor for Bing, from a data center based Internet entry point to 100’s of small off net locations with custom hardware, exclusive peering relationships, and highly optimized proxy, CDN, relay, security, and analytics services.

Chad Verbowski studied electrical engineering at the University of Manitoba, before going on to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science at The University of Edinburgh.
