Carl McDonald has worked in the finance and investment industry since 2000. Carl began their career at Credit Suisse in 2000 as an Associate. Carl then worked at Bank of America as an Associate in 2003, followed by Morgan Stanley in 2004. In 2005, they were an Executive Director at CIBC World Markets. In 2008, they became a Managing Director at Oppenheimer & Co., after the company acquired the U.S. Equity business of CIBC World Markets. From 2010 to 2015, they were a Director at Citi Investment Research, where they were ranked as the #3 analyst in Institutional Investor's 2013 and 2014 All-America Research Survey. From 2015 to 2020, they served as the Treasurer and Senior Vice President of Finance Division at Health Care Service Corporation, where they were responsible for the $22 billion investment portfolio, treasury operations, and venture capital/private equity investments. In 2022, they became an Interim Chief Financial Officer at Connie Health and a Venture Partner at NextGen Venture Partners, where they work with over 1,600 Venture Partners to invest $1-2 million in seed stage startups.

Carl McDonald obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and American Studies from Brandeis University between 1996 and 2000. In 2003, they obtained a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification from the CFA Institute. In 2019, they obtained a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) certification from the Association for Financial Professionals.
