Omar Khalafalla, Ph.D., P.E. has a diverse work experience in the field of bridge and structural engineering. Omar is currently employed as a Senior Bridge Engineer at CONSOR Engineers since 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Bridge Engineer at David Evans and Associates, Inc. from 2020 to 2022. Omar also served as a Structures Engineer at Kisinger Campo & Associates, Corp. (KCA) from 2018 to 2020.
Omar's earlier experience includes working as a Research Assistant at North Carolina State University from 2013 to 2018, where they conducted research on the durability and behavior of Carbon FRP prestressing strands used in concrete members. Omar also designed, fabricated, and tested concrete beams prestressed with Carbon FRP strands while supervising undergraduate students at the constructed facilities laboratory.
Prior to their work at the university, Omar gained experience as a Structural Engineer at ENCOM Consulting Company from February 2013 to August 2013. Their responsibilities there included the analysis and design of a 500 ft. long prestressed concrete bridge in Saudi Arabia, as well as assisting in the structural analysis of a 20,000 sq. ft. project.
Before that, they were a Structural Engineer at AACE Consulting Company from July 2012 to February 2013. During this time, they contributed to the structural analysis, design, and drawings of a 2-story mall with a total area of 1 million sq. ft., as well as the structural analysis, design, and drawing generation of a 5-story concrete factory.
Omar Khalafalla, Ph.D., P.E. completed their education in a sequential manner, focusing on civil engineering. Omar began their academic journey in 2007 at Ain Shams University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering. After completing their undergraduate studies in 2012, they furthered their education at North Carolina State University. From 2013 to 2015, they earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Civil Engineering. Building upon their knowledge and expertise, Omar Khalafalla completed their highest level of education at North Carolina State University, graduating in 2018 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering.
