Axel Harloff graduated in business administration. After working in fund management and asset management for various companies in Hamburg, he joined the board of Adler Real Estate AG in 2003, where he worked until he left in 2016. Since 2016, Axel Harloff has been the main shareholder and managing director of ERWE Retail Immobilien GmbH, based in Frankfurt am Main.
