Enterprise Education & Research Pillar Lead at Cooper University Health Care

Erin Pukenas, MD, MBA, FASA, FAAP, CPPS has a diverse and extensive work experience. Erin is currently the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Prior to this role, they served as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and as the Senior Director of The Advisory College System at the same institution.

Before joining the Cooper Medical School, Dr. Pukenas worked at Cooper University Health Care. Erin held various positions, including Vice Chair and Vice Chief of Anesthesiology, Director of the Division of Patient Safety and Quality Effectiveness, Associate Director of Pediatric Anesthesiology, and Pediatric Anesthesiologist. Additionally, they served as the Enterprise Patient Safety Officer.

Throughout their career, Dr. Pukenas has demonstrated a commitment to education, research, and patient safety. Erin has contributed significantly to their field and has assumed leadership roles in both academic and healthcare settings.

Erin Pukenas, MD, MBA, FASA, FAAP, CPPS has an extensive education history. Erin obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology, Honors from West Virginia University in 1999. Erin then pursued their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the same university, graduating in 2003.

After completing their medical degree, Dr. Pukenas undertook an Anesthesiology Residency at Cooper University Health Care, which was affiliated with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 2004 to 2007. Subsequently, they pursued a Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from 2008 to 2009.

Dr. Pukenas further expanded their knowledge and skills by enrolling in leadership programs. In 2016 and 2017, they attended Harvard Medical School, where they completed a program in Leadership in Patient Safety, Quality, and Informatics. In 2022, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

In addition to their education, Dr. Pukenas holds various certifications. Erin is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) obtained from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in 2015. Erin is also certified by The American Board of Anesthesiology in both Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology, obtained in 2008 and 2014, respectively.

Dr. Pukenas has also completed executive education in Women on Boards offered by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2020. Additionally, they possess certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support from the American Heart Association | American Stroke Association.
