Keith Kupferschmid

Keith Kupferschmid has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of intellectual property. Keith began their career as an Attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where they played a key role in drafting legislation related to intellectual property laws. Keith then joined the U.S. Copyright Office as a Policy Planning Advisor, representing the office on copyright policy matters and providing advice on copyright agreements and legislation. Keith also served as the Director of Intellectual Property at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, where they coordinated the evaluation of U.S. trading partners' intellectual property policies.

In 1997, Keith transitioned to private practice as an Attorney at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow Garrett & Dunner, specializing in intellectual property protection and litigation. In 1999, they joined the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) as the General Counsel and Senior Vice President, Intellectual Property. At SIIA, Keith represented and advised software and content companies on intellectual property policy and enforcement matters, supervised the Anti-Piracy Division, and testified before Congress and government agencies on IP issues.

Currently, Keith serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Copyright Alliance, a position they have held since 2015.

Keith Kupferschmid pursued higher education, beginning in 1983, by attending the University of Rochester. During their time there, which lasted until 1987, they focused on earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Eager to expand their academic horizons further, Keith enrolled at the American University Washington College of Law in 1989. Four years later, in 1993, they successfully completed their legal studies, earning a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
