Cathal Phelan has had extensive work experience in the field of quality management and engineering. Cathal began their career at Vistakon in 2010, where they worked in quality control and performed tasks such as ensuring parts were clean and replenishing stock levels. Cathal then joined Goodman Medical Ireland as a project engineer, where they designed machines and fixtures for the production line and contributed to a Kaizen team to improve efficiency.
Cathal later worked at 80's Purple as a warehouse assistant, where they were responsible for shipping and receiving orders, as well as organizing the warehouse. Cathal then joined Boston Scientific as a manufacturing engineer, where they monitored manufacturing outputs and worked with ISO standards. After that, they joined Lake Region Medical as a project engineer, managing equipment and process transfers between multiple manufacturing facilities.
Cathal's next role was at ARC Medical Devices Inc., where they served as a manufacturing engineer, designing the manufacturing area and coordinating with contractors for facility construction. Cathal also worked as a quality assurance manager at ARC Medical Devices, ensuring compliance with the Quality Management System and preparing documentation for clinical trials.
At LivaNova, Cathal worked as a supplier quality leader, providing support to the quality engineering function and implementing initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality. Cathal then moved to CORCYM, where they held the position of Global Quality Management System and Commercial Entity Manager. In this role, they were responsible for establishing and maintaining the global Quality Management System, developing procedures, processes, and IT tools across all sites.

Cathal Phelan began their education at Castletroy College, where they completed their high school education and obtained a Leaving Certificate in 2009. Cathal then went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Limerick, graduating in 2013.
In addition to their formal education, Cathal has also obtained several certifications. In December 2018, they completed training in Leading Management Systems Audit Teams and Management Systems Auditing from BSI. During the same period, they also obtained a certification in Medical Devices Quality Management Systems ISO13485:2016 from BSI. In August 2019, they received certification in Good Clinical Practice from The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). More recently, in May 2021, they completed Internal Auditor Training on the Medical Device Single Audit Program (MDSAP) from Axeon Corporation.
