Nahid Turan has a diverse work experience in the field of biomedical sciences. Turan started as a Research Assistant at Unilever in 1998 and then worked as a Biochemist at Chembiotech Laboratories Ltd. Turan's role at Chembiotech involved designing experiments and collaborating with other organizations to develop a wound management aid.
In 2001, Turan moved to the University of Birmingham where they worked as a Graduate Student Teaching Assistant, Lecturer, and Laboratory Demonstrator. Their responsibilities included teaching and demonstrating in various programs related to medical school, toxicology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and clinical chemistry.
Turan then joined the Temple University School of Medicine in 2006 as a Postdoctoral Fellow. During this time, they investigated the effect of assisted reproductive technology on the human epigenome and transcriptome. Turan also established a human tissue bank and managed a team of scientists.
In 2012, Turan became an Associate Scientist at the Fels Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Biology at Temple University School of Medicine. They worked on cancer research during their time there.
In 2013, Turan joined the Coriell Institute for Medical Research as a Co-Principal Investigator for the NIGMS Human Genetic Cell Repository. In this role, they coordinated with investigators and project managers, identified new directions for the biobank, and interfaced with governmental project officers and scientific advisory committee members. Turan later became the Director of Laboratory Operations and then the Chief Laboratory Officer at the institute.
Currently, Turan holds the position of Chief Biobanking Officer at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research. Their work involves overseeing the operations of the institute's diverse biobank and managing resources for disease progression and treatment studies, drug discovery trials, and open competitions for grants.
Additionally, Turan became an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in 2014, where they continue to teach and contribute to research.
Nahid Turan completed their education in a chronological order. They first attended Munich International School e.V. from 1989 to 1995, although the degree name and field of study are not provided for this period. Afterwards, they enrolled in the University of Birmingham and obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biochemistry from 1995 to 1998. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Science in Toxicology at the same university from 2001 to 2002. Lastly, they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Birmingham from 2003 to 2006.
