Brian Smith has over 25 years of work experience, starting as a System Administrator at AmerUs Group in 1994. Brian then moved on to Ames Laboratory as a Research Assistant in 1997. In 2004, they joined IBM as a BlueGene Development and IBM Master Inventor. In 2012, they became a Software Developer in OLCF at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In 2016, they were an HPC Architect at Mellanox Technologies. Brian returned to Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2018 as a Senior HPC Engineer, User Assistance and Outreach, Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility. Currently, they are the Director of Technology at Cornelis Networks.
Brian Smith obtained a 2x BS and 1x MS in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University between 1995 and 2004. In 2011, they obtained a Minnesota Traction Engineer/Hobby Boiler License from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. In 2018, they obtained a Machine Learning certification from Coursera.
